Help please - on switching on screen shows "Dell logo and Windows is starting" then screen goes black, two small blue boxes as big as downloading progress bars with the words "input not support" between them start to scroll round the screen. Mouse does not work and I am unable to do anything to try to correct problem. I am using Dell OptiPlex with Windows 7 Home with AOC monitor.

I have tried plugging the AOC monitor into an Acer laptop and this achieves whatever is happening on laptop screen being duplicated on the AOC monitor but both screens can then only be controlled by the wired mouse connected to the laptop with no response from wireless mouse used on AOC monitor. Having achieved the above am I, with my virtually non existent pc knowledge, correct in assuming that my monitor problem is due to a windows system problem???

Any assistance, in the simplest terms, as to the cause and corrective procedure to solve this problem would be very much appreciated

When did this start and how long had it worked OK prior to that? Did you add any programs or hardware immediately before you started having the problem?

Hi BIGMCK
it started about 10 days ago and I cannot remember installing anything new but at the moment with no access to see anything on screen I cannot double check. Prior to this it had worked fine for the last two years

It sounds like the message could be a problem with your monitor. Shutdown your PC, unplug the monitor from your PC and plug it back in. Also check on the chord going to the monitor, unplug it (if possible) and plug it back in. Reboot your PC and see if it makes a difference. == Also when it boots and you are seeing the Windows Logo, does it look the same as before the problem? I mean does it look the same size and shape? I am wondering if the resolution of the monitor has been changed? Check those out and let me know. Thanks,

HI bigmck
have plugged and un-plugged pc and monitor connections - no success - have also used another person's monitor with same problem occurring at start up. I feel the problem definitely is with the pc but because I do not get the cursor to appear on screen I cannot get any access to procedures that might be the solution. I also tried tapping F12 at start up and checked the indicated points using up/down arrows there but no faults indicated. Is there any way I can get the cursor to function to try to correct this problem. Please bear with me if I am not explaining things clearly as I previously said my knowledge is very limited

I found a link with the same problem you are having. Monitor went black with "Input Not Supported" floating aroun... - HP Support Forum - 1213255 It appears the Monitor is set on an incorrect resolution. See if you can go into Safe Mode. If not sure how to do that, follow this below.

"Immediately, start pressing the F8 key once a second until the Advanced Boot Menu appears. If the computer starts up into Windows, turn the computer off and try again. Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow key to highlight Safe Mode with Networking, then press Enter."

Once you are in Safe Mode, change the Resolution. I am not sure what it should be, but changing that will correct your problem according to the link. Give it a try and post back.
