monitor will only clone not extend

Hi all,
I have a Nvidia 8600m card in my dell laptop that has been plugging into my monitor just fine. I plugged it into my projector and it worked fine using both the extend and clone settings. I then went to change the screen res settings and suddenly it didnt show a screen on either the laptop monitor nor the monitor/projector - eventually it started allowing me to clone my desktop but nothing more... Any one got any bright ideas before the next world cup match tonight...

All sorted - did a disk check and after that it seemed to work again - no idea how or why but at least it works eh?!
