monitoring what's going through my modem

Hi All,

I noticed my modem flashing and hard drive flashing when I'm not using it for send/receive. Is there a window/program that monitors what is happening on the modem while not in use? I have all my programs set to notify me if an update is available and lets me decide if I want to download and install it. I realize some programs are set to "phone home" whenever you connect to the web. I am really curious to see what is going through my modem.

Basically what is happening is your Modem/router/PC are all constantly talking to eachother, even when not in use. Kind of like "hey are you there" which will get a response "yep IM still waiting for orders"... that type of thing.

If you wish, you can use something like Wireshark but you'll really need to know what you are looking for to even sniff out a problem.

As far as the hard drive, that does work while you aren't working as well. You can monitor stuff while on idle by using Task manager and see if you are getting unusual CPU usage while idling.
