More BSOD and restart problems after new installation

Hi Folks

Can I join the band wagon please ?

I am having the same problems (multi BSOD and also random reboots )

Attach snip 1 and snip2 are grabs from Bluescreenview and the dump.pdf need rename to dump.dmp due validity of upload extensions ( all three are from the last BSOD). This is all since a reformat of HDD and a clean install. I know I am a bit thick but I do not understand any of this.

Have used mem86 to test ram (2 x 1Gb) with no problems all passes also removed one stick and swapped so any pointers / help please

I am a big fan of Nir Sofer's work, BUT blueScreenView more often than not, doesn't point out the correct causes. Similarly Who crashed is even worse.

I prefer to use WinDbg (the Windows Debugging Tools) to read the memory dumps. It is the Gold standard for those of us that do this and often will give us the answer by itself. (we don't need the full jcgriff2 report each time).



We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP


We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.


You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Many thanks for your reply. As for Bluescreenview it was the first I came accross on search and there cant be anyone worse than me at debugging

No neither the system or graphics card are overclocked.

Almost all of these are related to your ati driver (ati2dvag.dll), Yours is from 2002 and really needs updating. You have a ton of other drivers from that far back that need updating as well.

Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead.
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

zigzag3143 that was quick - very many thanks, I will have to do a bit of searching.
The only driver I recognise from the old list is the pscaudio.sys which I guess comes from my Phillips PSC605 audio card do not know the others. Not sure what happened to the ATI drivers as I downloaded the latest installation package dated 13/4/2012 which was under the windows 7 32 bit so will do another update.
