Most robust 80mm fan?

Hello all

Will try to keep this short and I know this may be bit of a odd question, but while I have quite a few fans in my case, I have two 80mm in the front as intakes that compared to all the others never seem to last to long with perhaps only two to three months of use before they are howling like made on start ups.

All in all I will admit its probably in part my fault as being intakes these two via the case design do have a thin foam filter on them and I probably could do a better job cleaning that, but life it pretty busy so it tends to not be something I can focus on.

Ironically too, they are probably the hardest to change out as well so I tend to leave them till their practically dead.

So was just wondering if anyone knows of any better 80mm fans out there that are perhaps a bit more heavy duty in their bearings and or other parts that could hopefully last longer and for this I don't mind spending some extra money for that if they will at least not need to be changed so much.

Yeah sorry for not including the plug info.

The plug that is being used for these fans is the 3pin I really have no need to play with the RPM.

Thanks too for the link, that does look like a pretty good fan.

Although and I really don't have a brand preference I have been reading the Noctua stuff is supposed to be really good.

For them the two fan lines I think would be for my choices use something called SSO2 bearings, where as the one you linked uses 2 ball bearings, which is pretty good and probably why they can claim the long hours it can work.

Basically what I think is causing my problem is with the filter in front of these fans and them pulling against that, plus when it gets even rather dirty, the blade and what ever parts make that side of it up begin to separate from the other.

All in all when I pull the ones out I have been using there is a lot of play in them in that way and I would suspect that is where all the problems start.

So I just wonder which might be better for that, is it using a double ball bearing, or this SSO2 bearing?

Or perhaps either way it does not matter as this is not at all where the loads and or capability of either is going to make a difference.

The ones I use are 4 pin though there are many others that use 3 pin connectors. I would still go with ball bearings because I have used the 4 I have over 6 years, with my system never being shutdown, and have had no problems.

Do you have a filter in front of the fans? That can really help with keeping the dust out of the computer, and the fan bearings. I have intake fans behind a filter and they are three years old. I haven't had to change them yet and they run for about 7 hours every day. Of course YMMV, but a filter will definitely help prolong your fan life, IMO.

Haven't read the fine print but do they completely replace the fan with a brand new one at zero cost including shipping if it fails for any reason with in six years?

I have used Noctua fans for years. I have a lot of them and never a problem. They are very quite and I run them at 100% all the time.
I recommend never running a intake fan without a filter.
