Solved Motherboard change. Won't boot up

I would agree with essenbe. Even if other components were bad, like memory, it should still POST.

So I took the motherboard, connected the wires from a different PSU and installed the processor, fan and a stick of ram. I turned it on and still got the same result with blank display and no POST. I'm trying to get the motherboard replaced

(And yes, the VGA connector is set properly lol)

I got the same problem 1 week or so ago where fans would spin up, LEDs in the case light up b ut there was nothing else. In my case, it was the PSU going bad. If you have an extra PSU, I would try it.

mimmi, If this was a new PSU or a known working one, I would recheck my steps to make sure everything is right, and if it dosen't start, I would take the motherboard back an get another one. Sorry about this, but It seems that is what the problem is.

When you swapped out the motherboards did you make sure all the mounting posts matched up with the holes in the new motherboard. You also want to make sure there isn't one hidden underneath that didn't line up with a hole that may be shorting out a track on the motherboard. You could even try powering up with the motherboard removed from the case. Shorting the two power button header pins "momentarily" with a small screwdriver will simulate pressing the power button. Just rest the motherboard on a non conductive surface.

EDIT: Something else to look at is the back panel cut out on the case. The ones I have that come with my motherboards have grounding tabs that project out and contact the sides of the motherboard USB jacks etc. If you are not careful when installing your motherboard, one or more of the tabs could actually end up sticking in the USB port and shorting it out.

So the people in the shop tested out the motherboard and It worked. So the only thing now could be the PSU (The motherboard was tested away from the case by me and still didnt work). I asked the power rating of the shops PSU and they said it was 500W. And the power supply I used had a rating of 450W as PEAK/MAX Power and 230W As REAL power.

If it was me I think I'd be looking for a new better rated power supply.

It worked OK in the shop with that RAM didn't it? have you tried it with a brand new sufficiently rated power supply?
