I have two machines I will name comp1 & comp2
Comp1 is my main machine with all my stuff on it.
comp2 is for emergencies such as just happened & the one I'm using now.
I had my MB go out recently on comp1 so I have a few questions on what to do.
I pulled the HDD from comp1 & installed it as an external on comp2 & it seems everything on it is ok.
About the only solution I see is to purchase a new MB that I can use my CPU,GPU, cards etc off the bad board then do a new install of Windows 7 but now my problem is how to get all the stuff such as favorites, desktop, everything off the HDD from comp1 onto the new HDD install.
Any help, suggestions just anything that might pull me out of this hole will be appreciated
Thanks

Your documents, music, downloads etc will be in c:\Users\(your username)\. There will be a desktop folder in there. You could just leave the hard drive as is and see if it will load windows with the new hardware. Then run windows easy transfer to backup all your files and settings to an external drive. Once that's done do your clean install if you wish then run the wizard again to import your settings back. It may not be perfect and may miss some things but its better than nothing. I used it after cleaning a PC of a rather nasty infection and was quit pleased with the results.
