My desktop has a Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H motherboard, which has two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports. Earlier today they were all working fine, after installing a windows update and rebooting, suddenly the 2.0 ports no longer work. Plugging in a device still gives the device power (my USB mouse flashes ever 3 seconds or so), but no response when the device is plugged in. In device manager all "USB Root Hub" tabs remain unchanged when I plug anything into the 2.0 ports.

Found a couple older forum threads which described a similar problem after a windows update, but the solution didn't seem to apply in this case. I tried running the utilities found at

6.1.7601 USB Driver Update Fix
Binary files in some USB drivers are not updated after you install Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

but whatever they were checking for (Usbport.sys, Usbehci.sys, and Winusb.sys files) were all fine.

Any ideas? I wish I could get by with the remaining 2 ports but alas, I use a USB mouse, keyboard, and wireless card (by necessity, not choice).

have you tried installing the chip set drivers and USB drivers from the Gigabyte website after this happened?

GIGABYTE - Support & Downloads

Also, have you taken a look at the integrated peripherals in your bios to make sure all your USB Controllers are still Enabled

You may want to right click on your USB drivers and hit uninstall from the device manager and reboot. windows will automatically re install them when you restart. If not you can install the drivers from the website.

Hey Faber, thanks for the advice! I went straight to uninstalling all the USB root hub drivers last night (after exhausting other solutions I'd found) and that seemed to do the trick. If it happens again I'll try the first two options you suggested.

thanks for your help!

My pleasure. I would suggest doing the same procedure if windows update causes it to happen again. If it happens again on its own, I would suggest trying the drivers from the Gigabyte website. If it still happens after that, I would suggest a bios update. Good luck
