Mouse Acceleration Problems?

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a new computer for myself. Windows 7 has so far been running smoothly and efficiently, and I seem to have no problems with my new gaming rig.

One problem I keep having is with my mouse/cursor. It's somewhat of a small problem, but basically every few minutes my cursor will freeze in a series of 1 - 3 "stops." Basically, the cursor will freeze for about half a second, 1 - 3 consecutive times in a row. These stops or freezes occur both while I'm browsing online/through my desktop and while I'm playing games. I'm not particularly tech-savvy, but upon looking into this matter, I discovered I might have an issue with Windows 7's mouse acceleration.

I bought myself a "Mad Catz Cyborg RAT 7" gaming mouse; Mad Catz provides its own small app that is supposed to clear the problem of mouse acceleration (Cyborg Gaming | So what is Mouse Acceleration?), but it has changed nothing. I've also downloaded the latest software and drivers for my mouse, and I've downloaded and installed MarkC's Acceleration Fix, but nothing seems to have changed: I still have these random cursor freeze ups.

Any and all help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

You could try testing this by turning mouse acceleration off...

Click Start >> Control Panel >> Hardware and Sound >> Under the Devices and Printers header select 'Mouse'

In the window that pops up select the Pointer Options tab and then un-tick Enhance pointer precision.

Does it freeze then?

Yeah, the very first thing I did was un-tick Enhance Pointer Precision. No difference whatsoever.

Like I said, these freezes are like weird hiccups, they happen in a series of 2 or 3 freezes, each lasting about half a second or so. Ultimately, the mouse runs smoothly and the DPI customization is great, but this tiny problem is incredibly frustrating, especially when playing shooters or using photoshop.

Sorry about the double post...

It seems there's a chance that my issue is not a mouse acceleration problem, but a latency problem. I was running the DPC Latency Checker, and getting big red bars every time my mouse hiccuped. The thing is, I don't want to start randomly disabling/enabling programs under the Device Manager... It seems like an unpractical way to isolate the problem.

I've read that some people have alleviated their mouse problems by using a ps/2 connector, can anyone comment on any of this?

I wish Microsoft would release an update that addresses/fixes this problem.
