Mouse click problems

I want my mouse to "select" when I single click the left button and "execute" when I double click. My husband and I share the same PC and his mouse operates the way I want, mine does not - it executes on a single click. Help?

Yeah, the windows user interface is a real mess - made for scouts. But I am glad you could straighten it out.
