mouse clicks on its own, clicks twice, clicks sporadically

On my Dell Optiplex 780, both the left click and the right click are affected. While I am moving the mouse, things will randomly activate as if I "clicked" it. When I do actually click the mouse, it clicks twice even though I clicked once. When I am trying to click and drag, the mouse just clicks sporadically preventing me from moving what I intended to move. Sometimes when I am not using the mouse at all, it clicks activating whatever the mouse cursor may be on and/or disrupting my screensaver. The problem is there with both the right click and the left click.

I tried a new mouse, worked fine at first. However, in about 30 minutes, the same thing was happening to the second mouse.

several hours later, I tried a third mouse. Same as the second mouse, worked fine at first. 30 minutes later, same thing happened as the first and second mouse to a T.

This seems to be a problem with the actual computer rather than the mice because as I said, three mice all experience the same problem and the two other mice did not have that problem before I plugged them into this computer.

Since all mice do it, where are you plugging in the mouse? If its always the same port, try a different one, or try a front panel USB port and see if that makes a difference.

Considering the age of the PC, anything is possible.
