As well as 10.3b Preview, update the Gigabyte motherboards BIOS. Gigabyte patched all their boards that could fix this issue. Latest is F8 2010/02/11. This is why gigabytes previous BIOS downloads for your board start at F5 instead of F1.

Same for you. You also have a gigabyte board. Update the BIOS for your motherboard and use 10.3bPreview Cat driver.

Thanks, Rik... didn't know there was BIOS involvement in this issue as well. I had noted that my BIOS was a few versions old, but didn't think anything of it when I reviewed the fix list. If this one is there, guess I missed it.

BTW, any issues with running "preview" drivers that I should be aware of? I have never done that before, in fact I usually opt for older, known-to-be-stable drivers (which is why I installed 10.1 instead of 10.2 in the first place).

Just downloaded the BIOS, too. Man, slowest download ever! Took 26 secs for a 935KB file! I felt like I was back on a modem! (I know, not really... that would have taken 30 mins or more. )

It didn't fix everybody's issue, hence ATI's 2nd attempt. Gigabyte use to mention an issue with the HD5 series cards (mouse pointer and playing certain flash video). Their description of the issues fixed was a bit cryptic, then they just removed all previous BIOS's from there site.

no real issues with the preview drivers. they are based on Cat10.3 WHQL with a few extra features.
Most issues arise from incorrect installation. As you are upgrading drivers, just run the new Cat10.3b preview, do a custom install, it will tell you what is installed and what it will update and let the Cat Install Manager do the work of updating the drivers.

Most issues arise from people uninstalling their drivers first and getting it wrong. Maybe they used a driver sweeper. forgot to reboot. or didn't wait for windows to reinstall the previously cached driver. Even Windows update can cause issues by tryiing to automatically install the Microsoft WU Cat driver.

Uninstalling Cat drivers is only nesesary when going back to a previous driver.

I can confirm that updating the BIOS as well as installing the 10.3 Catalyst drivers has solved the problem.

Although I had to pay £20 extra for the same Graphics Card at least this issue is put to bed!

Thanks for all the info. I went ahead and installed 10.3b last night, but did not yet flash the BIOS as I need to read through the process to do it correct the first time (no floppy this go 'round).

Not wanting to get it wrong (and prior to reading your post), I went ahead and followed ATI's recommended method of installation, which is to uninstall the old prior to installing the new. It only takes a few minutes to follow those steps, which is not much of an investment of time for peace of mind.

Cool. Was starting to get worried about the both of you. BIOS updating always carries a risk. Another good tip is before updating the BIOS, enter it and take screen pictures with your phone so that you can remember the way it is set up. (incase some of the setting are not default)

Thanks for your concern, I appreciate it. Though you needn't worry about me and the BIOS... we are old friends. Esp. considering Gigabyte's awesome DualBIOS feature, it is really hard to screw it up (provided you flashed the secondary with the primary before fooling around with the primary). I had a huge issue on my last mobo, a GA-7VTHX+ and the onboard sound... drove me batty til I "figured" it out. I recently relayed it on another forum, let me see if I can find it...

Ahh, here it is:

"I had bought my old Gigabyte mobo (7VTXH+) back in 2002, and after formatting and installing WinXP, I updated the sound drivers for the onboard Creative chip. I was getting a horrible static-y sound (think way back to the old SB PCI-to-Bridge Latency issue, kinda like that). I flashed to the newer BIOS, but it did not go away. I reformatted, reinstalled, and it was still there. I tried flashing back to the old BIOS (since a friend with the same CPU/mobo combo said he never updated his BIOS, but he was using an actual sound card), and lo-and-behold it went away. So, I reformatted and reinstalled again (thinking installing on the old BIOS would be better if I was going to be running on it), but it came back. Turns out that I had to install XP and the Creative drivers with the newer F5 BIOS, but then flash back to the older F4 BIOS to operate it and leave it alone."

Like I said, old friends. I have no qualms over flashing the BIOS, and I am pretty good at remembering all of my settings from before. The only issue I have now is that since I don't have a floppy drive, I have to figure out the proper way of flashing it (I believe there is a USB option, I just have to determine if the BIOS needs to be the only file on the drive or not). Once I do, I will proceed.

I haven't had the big mouse pointer reappear since updating to 10.3b, then again I haven't had much of a chance to do anything on it since. Hoping for some time soon!

Yeah, it sounds like both of us are good old friends with BIOS. But, just to be sure I did the old take a picture trick, first... then started messing around.

Hopefully this thread will help others facing the same problem

Ihad same problem with pointer becoming large, i have a 5750 and e-mailed the maker with my problem, didnt think id get anywhere.......but i did! was told to try a different ccc/drive(this for 57xx cards) so far no large pointer and improved load time for BFBC2. hope it helps

Big Mouse!

I'm glad to see some of you guys are lucky with the big mouse problem, I have try to get rid of the whole mess since CCC 9.XX
I'm running now the latest drivers CCC 10.5 and still having the same issue, but this time is worst. The mouse changes all the time at random and its worse when using google earth, is just impossible.

I have updated my BIOS to the latest (msi-7388/K9A2 CF v2 BIOS: 1C0 ).
Changed to a different mouse from MS gaming mouse to Logitech G5
I have a HD 5770 by Sapphire, they have no clue why this happens and probably will RMA the card... I was able to fix the flash video problem by disabling hardware acceleration to b able to watch youtube videos full screen.
If anybody has any other alternative, please let me know!!

I was fine with CCC 10.3b, but then I upgraded to 10.4 and it has come back with a vengeance. Still haven't had the opp to flash the BIOS, so I know that is an issue. Maybe you want to try going back to CCC 10.3b... I think I will until I have the time to flash.

Well, at least you have a choice, all the CCC releases since I got the card (9.X) got the same problem, I'm contemplating to RMA the freaking card at this point...
