Mouse pointer sluggish in Windows 7 64 bit

Hello

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. HP m9500f computer. Ever since installing Windows 7 my mouse cursor gets slow when surfing the net at times. That is, to get the cursor across the screen I sometimes have to sweep the mouse two or three times in that direction because the cursor hesitates. If I close all browser windows and open up, e.g., Word, the problem persists. It usually clears up soon after.

DO you think this is a USB problem?

What else could cause this?

What type of mouse do you have. Wired or wireless. If wireless replaced the batteries. Some mice are picky on what kind of surface they are on. Try on several types of surfaces. Check and see if there is any shipping tape or the like on the bottom of the mouse. If that is okay, check your mouse settings. Hit Start and type in mouse should get you there.

I've had a similar issue with my eMachines about 4 years ago with Windows XP. Have you tried reinstalling any drivers related to the mouse?

Wireless mouse. No driver to install (Logitech doesn't have drivers on their si9te apparently) . Is laser so surface shouldn't matter. Also at times it is fine with no lag. so definitely not surface or batteries. Something the computer is doing lags the mouse

Don't you believe it, !!!!! Any kind of gloss on the suface will affect it.
Try using a sheet of matt paper as a mouse mat.

Have you a wired mouse to try?

My wireless blue tooth usb stick has a driver but it's a Microsoft mouse and keyboard.

Is the USB receiver plugged directly into one of the PC ports? Issues can occur if not (i.e., plugged into a hub or monitor USB port). I use a 3' male->female cable plugged into my PC and brought up to my desk through one of the cable holes, where it lays on the dek (out of the way) with the receiver plugged into it.

Use a mouse pad & fully charge the mouse or install new batteries. Then make sure the mouse dongle is plugged into a usb port on the mobo. If problem continues remove batteries and click mouse buttons for several minutes then reinstall batteries. If problem continues grab mouse driver from Logitech they for sure have drivers! And finally if problem continues save yourself a ton of time and frustration and purchase a wired gaming mouse with hi-res and be done with it. I've struggled for years with wireless and when it works it's great but dropped keystrokes and sluggish mouse clicks and movement have me turned around back to wired and I'm loving it !

I have had Logitech mice and keyboards and they were nothing but problems. Got rid of them and got Microsoft and haven't had any problems. I just tired of spending time trying to get them to work correctly. I took the last one back to the store and swapped it out for a Microsoft.

i agree it does matter what surface you use even with laser i use mouse mats got quite a few different surfaces i use for different things for normal surfing i use a belkin pad with a bit of grip for playing games i use a trust mat for laser thats like skating on ice so i switch the dpi settings down on the mouse.

all our wrists are different so experimenting is the best way till you get what you feel is nice my circle of movement is approx i inch does your mouse have a dpi button on it?

Ok guys, miraculously a new mouse pad seems to have solved the problem. No more sluggishness in the past 12 hours. I'm amazed. I never thought it could have been the mouse pad because it was so intermittent. I.e. it would work fine for so long then bing, sluggishness always prevailed, hence I associated it with some polling issue.. like CPU or USB or memory overload of some sort. Going to switch back to the suspect mouse pad and see if problem comes back. Stay tuned..

Good to hear the mouse is tracking better. I've also found that a regular washing of the pad can also help as tons of grease and dirt are picked up over time into the pad.

Ok. Bought a wired mouse. Problem DEFINITELY solved. Completely different mousing experience. Moves 100,000 smoother, faster, accurate, etc. Thumbs down to Logitech wireless mice. Wasted a lot of time trying to figure that out. Thanks to everyone for help
