Mouse Problems

I am not sure if this should go under games or devices, but I figure since it is my mouse acting up I will post my issue here.

I play the game World of Warcraft and my problem seems to only happen, or at least I have only noticed it while I am playing the game.

My mouse is not fluid. It gets jerky. It will freeze for a split second to up to a couple seconds. The largest annoyance is it jerking when I pull it across the screen.

This problem does not happen all the time that I am playing. It happens more often when I am around other players in the game or in the main cities.

I have been playing this game on this computer for almost a year (since I built the computer). It has worked perfectly fine up until about 3 weeks ago. I thought my mouse was going bad because when this problem occurred my computer would make a duuug dong sound (sorry it is hard to describe).

My old mouse is a Microsoft Optical USB. (has a cord)
My new mouse is a Logitech Wireless Mouse M510.

I am lost about what to try next or what might be wrong.
- I thought it might be the surface of the table I was playing on messing with the optical mouse so I tried to use a mouse pad, problem persisted.
- I thought it might be that I don't have the most up to date drivers so I downloaded the current drivers from the Logitech website, problem persisted.


If anyone has any ideas what might be wrong and how to fix it I would greatly apprecate any help.

Check that mouse driver is up to date, in the device manager
If wireless check batteries
Go to event viewer and check for errors under the administrators tab. During the time of the problem
Make sure that you have enough available memory
Try another mouse
Try another socket for the mouse

Go to task manager...processes...see if one is IPoint...end process IPoint...see if problem goes away....

Thank you for all the ideas! I hope everyone had happy holidays.

My problem still persists after looking into the possible solutions.

- I have updated all the drivers on my computer. I specifically downloaded updated mouse and video drivers and the rest of my drivers are all showing as up to date when I check them.

- This problems happens on my wireless mouse and my other mouse that is connected by a wire. Though I do not know why the one that has a wire causes the computer to make a ba dung sound when it happens and the wireless mouse does not.

* I looked at the event viewer and I am seeing something that I am not sure about, though it is not recording every time I have the problem, so I am not sure if it is the problem or just something else happening that is a coincidence.
-I am getting "CAPI2 - 4107 errors in application event log.
-I looked this up and it is showing that it is a certificate problem.
- Possible solution: PeteNetLive - KB0000304 - Event ID 4107, CAPI2 Error Windows 7
- I have not tried this solution. I am still a little confused about the certificate download. I downloaded it and it is just a file about a certificate and I am not sure how it is supposed to fix my problem.

- I have looked at my task manager. I do not have many programs running and none of them are taking up a lot of memory. If there is another way to check available memory please tell me.

- I have tried 2 mice. I originally bought my new mouse because of this problem.

- I have tried every usb port on my computer, problem still persists.

- I read your article about the computer freezing, it is not really a freeze, more of a pause or jerkiness. I am not sure how I would test it in safe mode because it happens when I play 2 games online the most. Though it does happen in all computer functions, just to a letter amount.

- Lastly, I did see Ipoint in my task manager. I removed it but the problem is still occurring.

This problem is making World of warcraft annoying and Starcraft II unplayable. If anyone else knows what this could possibly be or has a fix I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you think something could be wrong with my hardware? I have had this computer for almost a year, about 11 months at the moment. I have never had problems with it before. Is there anyway I can diagnose if my hardware has problems with it.

Based upon your first post it does not sound like hardware. It sounds like a minor software problem or at worst a mouse problem or port problem
Follow the outline that I and others gave. Give us the results of the tests and we will be able to diagnose.

Try another socket for the mouse

Did you do the above?

Send me a screen shot of task manager performance and process

Yes, I have tried all of the USB ports on my computer, including the 2 in the front.

Did you get the latestest updates for bios etc.
This is something that you should not attempt yourself, unless you have experience in this area

I don't think I have ever updated BIOS. My computer is a home built, my cousin helped me a lot with it. I will look at updating them now.

If you are not updated it can cause the problem that you described. Your cousin should be able to help.
