Solved Mouse problems

I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate installed for almost 2 months now. Lately I've started to experience very strange behaviour.
The mouse cursor moves all the way left by itself (and keeps moving after I move or lift the mouse), usually when I'm clicking in task manager or event viewer or anything to do with system monitoring. If I'm clicking or doing anything in a browser, or windows explorer, it normally doesn't happen. The only way I can stop it, when it moves left to the edge of the screen, is by clicking on either the browser window or the taskbar. It keeps happening again & again and it first started today, after installing Windows Updates.

Even worse, the number of processes in task manager sometimes randomly jumps from 49 to 67 or higher, without anything running to warrant such an increase.
I scanned the computer with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, they both didn't find anything.

It's getting near impossible to do any work on my computer & I'd appreciate your help.

Have you tried a restore point predating the problem?

What type of mouse as well? Check for dust bunnies hibernating in and around the light sensor (or ball!!).

Firstly, thank you guys for your response, I've been tryin' to figure this out all morning.

Haven't tried to restore yet, could it cause problems 'cause of updates?
The mouse I'm using is an optical Canyon CNR-MSOPT4 and have checked for dust bunnies, cleaned some, but the problem is intermittent & still persists.

I've noticed some processes being duplicate as well: csrss.exe, dllhost(can't open file location on one of them, it keeps appearing & disappearing, mostly when I open new explorer windows), nvvsvc.exe, taskhost.exe & 12 svchost.exe processes. I'm getting a bit worried about the possibility of a virus or malware.
I could use your expertise in this matter as well.

If you haven't already:

Do a quick AV scan, if it finds anything then do a full one afterwards.
Download, install and update Malwarebytes' Free. Then run a full scan in Safe Mode.

Try system restore...It should have made a point before the updates were installed....

Could be malware, but if both Malwarebytes and MSE came up clean not likely....

I've had similar issues before, but it usually involved GTA San Andreas running on the task bar....

I already have Malwarebytes Free installed, but haven't ran it in safe mode yet. Will try that next. I've also installed Hijack this & RUBotted since the problem began.
The system restore would screw up the 20+ updates installed during the last update, so I'll try that after the scan.
How about the processes issue described in my last post? It can't be normal can it? I better open a new topic for the processes problem, right?

I would as this is a rodent problem. You can always link to this post so readers have the full story.

EDIT!! Be careful with HiJackThis as it's not 64 bit compliant yet and does give some funny readings.

Hmm, didn't know HiJackThis isn't 64bit compliant. Better not rely on it's results too much.
As for the mouse problem, it hasn't happened during the last couple of hours, so I'm stumped as to what the hell it could be. But I intend to get to the bottom of all of this.

If you do have to run restore losing the updates is not the problem...finding the guilty party is....

Hence my apprehension on restoring. The problem hasn't reared its ugly head for the better part of the afternoon, but I think it will happen again. First thing monday morning, I'm gonna go out & buy a new mouse, just in case it's a hardware problem and 'cause the mouse is 4 years old.

I was just going to suggest a new mouse, they do go bad after a time, especially if it's the old ball type. I have had optical ones cause the cursor to "get drunk" too.

I really hope it's the mouse on the blink, rather than any other hardware malfunction(like the motherboard or USB ports), or some type of malware related problem.

Could also just be a program conflict does it seem to follow any patterns? Also what type mouse is it/ and any special software?

It forces the cursor to rapidly move left, when it comes to the edge of the screen & I move the mouse right, it still keeps movin'. Funny, it hasn't happened the whole afternoon. It's an optical wired USB mouse with the Windows driver, no software of it's own.

It's no longer a problem, don't know exactly what it was, but it's gone now. Good riddance.

Spoke too soon. The problem reapearred an hour ago. Since then, I've scanned with MBAM in safe mode, MSE & found nothing. Unfortunately I didn't have time to buy a new mouse, to see if it really is hardware related. Hmm, it started acting up on the weekend the first time as well. Strange.
Anyway, I better order a new mouse before rolling back any updates.

Which mouse would you reccomend I get?

Right now I'm using a Microsoft 5000 blue track wireless....the mouse works great except the side buttons are very small and not in a convenient location, also the scroll wheel is flaky....however it tracks good and is very accurate in GTA IV.
