The mouse cursor on my wife's new Gateway laptop
is frozen. It DOES NOT MOVE.
Yes, I have booted several times.
Yes, I have booted to safe mode twice.
Mouse cursor is in EXACTLY the same place.
Keyboard works fine.

Will greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

USB mouse works fine

I plugged in a USB mouse, works great!
This allowed me to look at Device Manager.
It says Synaptics mouse is working fine
and the driver is up to date.

USB mouse is working fine.
Synaptics mouse does nothing at all.

Soo.. your touchpad is not working? When did this start?

Try holding the "Fn" key and then tapping "F7".. let go of the "Fn" key and try the touchpad again

This does not solve the problem.

My wife wants her new computer to
work exactly as it did when she got it.

Kirsch: thanks for quick reply.
Her computer is one of the new laptops
that combine various functions on the
top row of keys. Just like the Dell
I am using now.

What happened with Fn F7 was
the speaker was turned on and off.

I tried a few more Fn combinations,
but nothing affected the touchpad.

It's 9:03am here. At 9:45 I will drive
on out to Best Buy. I've enjoyed buying
stuff from them, but never had to get
anything fixed.
