Hi All-

First I'd like to say I've tried google and spent 3 hours with HP customer support. I have a brand new dm3t series laptop. There are two issues that I'm having with the laptop that no one can seem to figure out. I literally had an HP tech remote access my laptop and spend an hour trying to figure out what was wrong.

I have tried system restore, recovery, re installation of drivers and really everything else they've asked me to do. I turn to the forum to see if anyone is can help, thanks much.

1) First issue is very annoying. When I awake my computer from sleep the mouse is very sluggish and doesn't hardly respond to the track pad. Furthermore, the mouse is a magnify glass and when I do try to move the mouse via track pad it just zooms in and out. Oddly enough, after a few minutes of sitting there the mouse starts to work again. It's almost like the mouse has to warm up. It is very frustrating.

2) Second issue is the display on battery power. When on battery power the screen CONSTANTLY is dimming and brightening itself. For instance as I'm typing this thread the screen is brightening and dimming for no apparant reason. I'm not sure why and i'm sure it is wasting my battery. I've tried all sorts of power management tips/ticks and still nothing.

Any help would be appreciated, should I just return it? What can I do?

Thanks again

Both problems seems hardware related to be honest.

With your first problem it seems like a key is sticking (CTRL) and moving the mouse is like moving the middle button of your mouse.
Check your keys in my opinon.

As for the screen,if you have all the latest drivers and the HP tech could not help it could be a faulty power supply.

Hi - did you find a solution to your problem with the mouse after sleep mode? I'm having the EXACT same problem on my laptop, which is brand new - in fact, I returned the first one I bought in exchange for this one because IT was having the same problem. Only to discover the problem existed with this one as well. I don't know what to do, and I don't know if it's a windows 7 problem or an HP problem.

dm3 dimming

I just wanted to add that I too have a brand new dm3 from HP and am having the exact same problems. Both mouse and constant dimming. I've spent an hour with HP support and they just had me update bios. Also I have not loaded any software on the system as HP usually blames unexplained problems on outside software. Considering returning the system.

I thought about returning mine too, but I really do love this laptop and when I followed the advice on the forum link I listed I haven't experienced the mouse problem anymore. Basically what you do is turn off the multitouch gestures feature for the trackpad (which you do through 'ease of access' menu - mouse settings - uncheck multitouch gestures boxes). I don't mind losing this feature because I wasn't even aware of it when I bought the laptop. So far, no recurrences of the trackpad freezing.
But then again I don't have the screen problem.
I will say I don't like how HP is handling this - or rather, NOT handling this.

sorry for my delayed reply. I have been moving over seas.

Turning off the multi touch gestures does fix the mouse problem but the screen dimming still occurs when on battery (which is very annoying).

Has anyone heard or have a solution for the screen dimming? Thanks
