mouse was fine until yesterday--now sticky

I am using Win 7 Pro x64 with a Microsoft Wireless Laser 5000. It worked fine for years until yesterday when it started acting like there is something sticky on the screen. I had installed a Flash update just after booting so I thought that update might have caused the problem. Totally uninstalled Flash, but no help. Have replaced batteries, blown out the laser window, cleaned mouse pad, tried different pad surfaces and tried every suggestion I could find. Nothing has helped.
I do lots of photo editing so my mouse needs to be very precise and sensitive. Now it's even a PITA to do browsing because it may take several seconds to get the cursor where I want it.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi meamjw are you using a mouse pad, if so a dirty one builds up gunk on it and needs to be cleaned or purchase a new one as they are very cheap...

Hi meamjw, I have had trouble like what you describe and have tried what you have without complete success. My best solution for sticking mouse pointer is to use the back of a paperpad (brown cardboard) as a mouse pad - that worked for me again recently. Earlier when that did not work at my home workstations, I found that I had to use a wired keypad and wired mouse. There was too many wireless devices jabbering in the vicinity (2 wireless network wifi transceivers, 2 computers with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse and laptop on wifi). For serious cadd work I have had best luck with PS2 port keyboard and PS2 port mouse (not USB to PS2 adapter). Hope something works for you!
