Mouse wheel generting noise.

Hi.

My mouse wheel is causing a noise during scrolling. The noise is like a ball bearing needs lubricants badly.

It is a Logitech K260 Keyboard/mouse combo.

Is there a way to minimize/reduce/stop it?

Is the noise just coming from the mouse or through your speakers ?
If just the mouse sounds like a defect :/

You could get some clear machine oil and try to put a drop on each side of the wheel ?
Or send the sucker back.

Is it a ball mouse? If so, remove the circle cap, and the ball. Clean both the ball and the rollers inside the ball bay. They will collect dust.

If not, I don't even know how a laser mouse emits a sound. I have heard sound from speakers when moving a laser mouse before though. But don't remember what I did.

Not from the speaker but from the mouse, while rolling the wheel.

I like the idea of applying machine oil. Is it safe?

Yes I wouldn't put a whole lot though,
Most mouse wheels will move sideways too just get a syringe and dope it up a bit
After you dope it up with a drop turn the wheel and turn it upside down so any excess will run out.

You might even try center clicking a couple times might shake things up a little.

I did it on a M$ mouse that the mouse wheel squeaked it helped that but the mouse in general was a piece of crap before and after

If memory serves me correctly, machine oil is not electrically conductive, so you should be fine as long as you don't get it on the laser lens.

I'd be more inclined to use a dry lubricant that would not attract dust or contribute to making grime. Maybe a Teflon-based lube like might be used in a lock or other tight space.

Perhaps you could try a silicon lube, that are available in a pressure pack. The advantage is the don't leave an oily residue.

Before lubing up the mouse.....a highly suspect fix unless you can control where the lube is going, I would blast that sucker with air while scrolling and see if that doesn't help. Otherwise I think ordering a replacement then doing surgery from bottom up would be the best approach. Carefully disassembling it to get to the offending parts for inspection and precision grease or lube.

Alan, I failed to blast it with air. I dont have a can of Air ATM, and cannot get one very soon because of a local flood. I will try it at the first chance.

I applied some machine oil to it last night, and the issue is 50% cured now. It is not noising while scrolling downwards, but crying while scrolling upwards.

By the way, does the moisture have an impact on it?

Sorry Gokhan, I missed your post. Yes, it is available, but unfortunately I cannot avail it right now.
And cannot get a new one too, due to the same reason.

WD-40 is not a lubricate it's a cleaner for rust... I doubt you have rust in there
It may take a couple applications of machine oil Archie.

I doubt you need to take it completely apart to do it but separating the bodies will help a lot
The shaft is the one that probably needs the oil it's just tough to get it applied being assembled

Oh, I should add, I wasn't insisting that it was the best idea I would try the D-I-Y cleaning in the YouTube video.

More searching reveal it can degrade plastics.
