Have you got a spare mouse to try? I had a similar problem with my previous mouse. It turned out that the microswitch was faulty and was not always recognising when the button was pressed, sometimes sending a single click or even a multiple click or none at all.

You could always check your options in the Mouse Control Panel, or even set your system to use the Single click to open an item (point to select) option in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/295-folder-options-open.html

So it's the bluetooth mouse that's having the problems? Is the battery in good condition? Does it need charging/replacing? Does the laptop always recognise that the mouse is there, or is it intermittent? When using the mouse, do you have your other hand resting over the keyboard, perhaps inadvertently resting on the built-in touchpad?
