Move from 8 GB to 16 GB RAM

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]It has a Pegatron 2A86 motherboard.[/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]I have 8 GB RAM, as 4 cards of 2 GB, occupying 4 of the 6 slots.[/FONT]

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]I want to move up to 16 GB RAM.[/FONT]
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Can I simply put 2 cards of 4 GB in the remaining 2 slots?[/FONT]

The HP specs page here:

says:

Maximum memory: 24 GB (6 x 4 GB) (64-bit OS)

So I suspect you could do what you say.

But I don't know how cranky that board might be about exactly matching the already installed RAM.

I'd certainly look around on HP site or at the Crucial.com configurator to see what RAM they recommend.

It's often said you should have strictly matching sticks, but some boards are more forgiving than others. It doesn't seem to be as big an issue as it was 5 or 10 years ago.

You could buy two 4 gb sticks and if the PC balks, buy another set of two 4 GB sticks and then sell/discard the four 2 GB sticks you now have.

You would need to install Pro to use max out the board and use 24 GB.

Home Premium only supports 16 GB.

But you should be fine adding 2 more 4 GB sticks.

But I would do as Igmatz says, later on get 2 more matching 4 GB sticks, and just use 4 slots. It`s easier on the memory controller on the cpu

Thanks. I'll buy the pair of 4 GB sticks.
Also, how is it "easier" to chuck the existing 4 x 2 GB sticks, and use 4 x 4 GB sticks?
