I just picked up a newer Dell laptop that has Win7 Pro installed. My existing Dell has my 256 SSD in place with all my settings for WMC and what not, but it has Win7 Home.

How can I put the SSD from the old Dell, into the new one, with the least amount of hassle? Do I do a sysprep and use a install on the transfer?

Any help is appreciated!

UPDATE: Just made a bootable USB on Win7 Pro... but now my sysprep has hit fatal error on the original machine. Ughhhh May just say screw it at this point

Unless you own a Win7 Home Premium retail license, I'd Clean Reinstall Windows 7
with the Pro installer provided in Step 1 using the key on the COA sticker on laptop.

If you want to transfer the Home Premium install and it is a Legacy BIOS install to an MBR drive then after swapping the SSD into the laptop and if necessary adjusting UEFI BIOS to enable Legacy BIOS or CSM, if it won't start on its own then follow these steps to Adjust Win7 to boot on new hardware with Paragon Adaptive Restore CD. You may still need to run a few Startup Repairs.

Once it's up and running reactivate with your Home Premium key at Control Panel>System activation link.

Once you know it boots you can also do the Change between Win7 versions workaround to change to Pro version to activate with the Pro key that came with the laptop if you prefer that or don't have a retail Home Premium license.
