Move to where other Office programs are stored?

OK, I hope I'm asking this question in the right place. I'm new to Windows and I'm having a hell of a time trying to find where my applications are stored. Mac OX stores apps in "Applications" (Yes, I'm a Mac girl, and my G4 finally died after 10 years of faithful maintenence-free service. I bought a PC to tide me over while I save for the Mac of my dreams). After downloading Microsoft Office, the app is on my desktop. I'd like to file it alongside my other applications, but I'm stopped when I try to move it to where other Office programs are stored. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx. : )

Hi and I will try and help.
I think you are saying that you downloaded MSOffice from some where and saved it to your desktop.
Is this correct?

Have you opened it and installed in yet?
If yes great. If no why not?
If you need to install it just left mouse click it twice and it should open and start the install process.

If you did install it and want to save the application for safe keeping in case you need to reinstall in the future you need to right mouse click on it and select copy from the menu.

After that you need to open Explorer and decide where you want it stored for safe keeping.
Possible directory called Backup Program.
Where ever it is all you need to do is select the location and right mouse click again in the directory and select paste.

I know it was easier on the Apple but welcome to the PC reality world.

Where did you "download Microsoft office" from? Microsoft Office isn't an application that you can freely just download off the web.

Usually, with an application for Windows...you get a set of files and you double click and run setup.exe. That will automatically install the software into C:\Program Files\application. Windows will also automatically create the program icons in the start menu for you and will often ask during the install if you also want applications for starting the program directly on the desktop.

If you did run the setup, the icons on the desktop may just be the launchers. You should also see launchers in the All Programs list when you click on the Start orb!

Thanks for responding, everybody! To clarify, I've already installed Office and I'm trying to move the app icon from the desktop.

Nope, no Launcher list, and a search for "launchers" comes up empty. Is it OK to trash a launcher, or should I keep trying to file it away?

I've been on the phone with Microsoft all week due to a product key issue. They sent me a download link after several attempts failed. I'm still waiting to see if this product key will work (I can't find a way to summon the "enter key" prompt, so I guess I have to wait for it).

Alas, when I try "select copy" nothing happens. I also tried to drag and drop it into the "all programs" list, but no go. So annoying. I'm just itching to trash that sucker.
