Moved Documents for C to E drive

Good day to all.I have installed a second 2TB drive into my desktop,And moved all my Documents,Music,Photo's,& Videos.From ''C Drive'' on to this new drive called ''E''.
So leaving my ''C drive'' with only Windows 7 operating system and all programs,Working okay.
But when it becomes to saving items it wants to go to the ''C Drive'' Now can I prevent this from happening.
Would it be possible to make the new ''E Drive'' the default drive,Is that possible??, or am I thinking wrong.
I want all my info etc to be on the ''E Drive''.

Any thoughts please.

Hi,

Yes its possible, it depends on what application you are using. For example, in Excel2010, you need to specify the save location.

Each application you use will have an option to specify the save location.

Thanks for prompt reply,My pal just sent me an email with this info.

Double click C Drive > Double click users.
Right click documents folder > select properties > Location on the top left.
Then select Move tab > Select the location of the Documents on the new drive. > Apply > OK.

Would that be okay,And then the same method for the other folders music etc.

You'll have less problems if you copy your User folders to data drive, then rightclick each to add to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums. Once you confirm it's there then you can delete the C User folder content. Whenever any Program writes to C, change it's Preferences to the new location and drag the file over to D in the Library Window.

I agree. Libraries have made it unnecessary to remap and redirect system folders. It only takes a minute to configure them.

You would tell windows where to save something EVERYTIME you save something. That is the most efficient way to save. Don`t trust windows, do it manually, everytime.

Windows should always ask you where to save. Picking a default and leaving it at that IS NOT a good idea.

There's no harm in telling specific apps where to save by default. I don't think you are understanding the process. For example, when done in Excel, you still get the "Save As" box popping up, it just defaults to your specified location instead of the default from the base install. You can still choose to save anywhere else as you would have normally. Doing so just saves you the steps of navigating your way back to your desired folder each and every time.

Are you talking to me or the op ? I understand the process completely, I`m just telling him the best advice I can provide. There have been so many people coming here and saying... where did my file go ?

You. I haven't seen any threads where someone was complaining about where their files have gone. They aren't auto-saved to that directory. The user can save them anywhere they want, and if they changed their Libraries, they'd be well aware of why and where to. There's no harm in doing so. If a person is even asking about how to edit their default location, they'll understand the file structure and where to find their files.
