I have a dilemma. I have a spare HDD from an old laptop that is no longer in my possession and it has Office 2010 Pro Plus on it. I want to put that HDD into another laptop that doesn't have Office on it.

Will I be able to use Office once that spare HDD is in the new laptop? Or does the key lock it to the motherboard?
Would using migration software between the spare HDD and the HDD already in the laptop do the trick?

I don't want to lose Office and have to buy another copy. Why should I have to spend the money for something I already own.

If, by this, you mean that Office 2010 is INSTALLED to that drive, then no, there is no way to migrate it to another drive or to another PC -- NOT without a LOT of work. There are apps out there that will allow you to migrate an entire Windows setup from one PC to another, and there might be a way to migrate only the Office 2010 stuff -- but I've never tried such a thing and have no experience doing this.

You'd need installation media to install Office 2010 on an different PC, and you'd also need a product key to do that.

If this was a retail install, and you have the media, you can install it on the new laptop. If it complains about activation, you may have to call MS to get that fixed.

Yes, Office is installed on the spare HDD.

What is that work...the work you said that was required to move Office?

And why can't I find Office 2007 Pro Plus media? I can download other Office products off of MS website or Digital River but not Pro Plus. Any ideas?

I've tried those Digital River downloads and my key won't work. I called MS directly and they verified the key but said
Office Professional Plus media is only available through the company or school that bought Professional Plus in bulk. (or something to that affect) Can anyone expand on that?

I guess the guy I bought my laptop from worked in a office that loaded it.

Sounds like you have a volume license key.

I also think you m,ay have an illegal copy of Office.

Whenever you opurchse a laptop from anyone that should also include a legal copy/license for Office then you would also received the paperwork with the product key. If not, you probably have an illegal copy.
