I have agreed to help a friend set up a new computer in a couple of weeks and one of the things she wants is to re-install her copy of Office 2010 on the new computer. The problem is that she had a break-in a few weeks back and can't find her disk; she believes it got taken in the robbery.

Is there any way she can reinstall it on the new computer, which will be running Windows 10, without having the disk? I'm not sure if she has any of the papers that came with the original purchase of Office 2010; I'm still trying to find that out.

I'm really not sure how the licensing for Office works or whether the program can be transferred to a new computer so any information you could give me would be helpful.

You can download the Office 2010. Just Google "Office 2010 download". But you need the key.

I don't think the computer is stolen. She's a woman in my book club and looks to be a senior citizen. I don't know her well - she's still new to the club - but I can't picture her doing break-ins.

Is there any way to get the key from the existing copy on her old computer? She's not having any luck finding the paperwork for the Office; it may have been in the box containing the CD.
