Solved Moving photos around folder

In window xp I used the thumbnails view and I was able to click on a photo or photos and drag them around a folder and drop them inbetween another photo when a black vertical bar appears. This way I could organise the group of photos in an order of preference.
Then I would highlight them all and rename the first one, which would rename them all the same except for a (1) or (2) etc at the end of the name to distinguish it.
Now. In windows 7 I am able to highlight them all and rename, that is not the issue. The problem is that when I drag a photo around a folder, the black bar does not appear to let me drop it in between other photos.
I know this sounds trivial and I could rename the photos individually so they would sort in alphabetical or numerical order etc, but I have thousands of pictures in hundreds of folders so it takes up too much time.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Neutron16 you are a star. I had read a good few posts of people furious about this particular problem on windows 7 and thought there was no way to fix it. I said I'd have one last look and seen your reply. Delighted now. I don't know what you gain by helping people or if it's your job, but either way, I love you!

Moving Picture Folders Windows 7

I tried using the BAT file and it did not work. I was able to solve the problem by NOT using the Libraries view to work with my pictures. Instead, go to your hard drive, users, then access My Pictures. Going through to this view allows you to move folders around just like in older versions of Windows.
Good luck!D
