Moving user back to %SYSTEMROOT% from location on second HDD

Hello. I have an account in D:\Users\<USERNAME> that I am trying to move to C:\Users\<USERNAME> and I followed the directions here:

but it just sends me to a temporary profile. Is there another step I need to follow? In the logs it says that it can't find the profile.

Make a drive image of both your drives (C: and D better be safe than sorry.

Use Kari tutorial
Make sure to disable or uninstall antivirus.
You have to find out if your system was once upgraded. The workaround is on page 13.
From Windows you run Audit.cmd to enter audit mode.
You modify the relocate.xml to point \users to c:\users and place it on D:\
Then you run Sysprep.cmd

OK just got done imaging. It looks as though that is for new installs of windows 7. Do I just relocate the directory, change the location in regedit, and run audit?

Kari tutorial is used to move \Users from a partition to another.
It can be used to move from C: to D: or from D: to C:

OK sorry, I ran sysprep, it ran without a problem, and then when I restarted it went into install mode. I am using the relocate.xml file, and have set the profiles directory and program data to c:\Users and c:\ProgramData and put it in D:

D: is where the profile I'm trying to move is.

Ok ran again, did the sysprep, and it rebooted in oobe but nothing happened. Account is still on the D: drive

As far as I know it was not upgraded. Sorry, I read the instructions but I haven't done this before and it's a little confusing to me.

Is your D: on another drive or on another partition?

Win 7 is still a better OS. Why do you want to downgrade to Win 10?

My suggestion is to buy a Small SSD (128 or 256G) and do a clean install of win 10 on it.
If you don't have a Win 7 key to use on the Win 10 clean install, you can retrieve from the current win 7 installation.
Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First | Tutorials
Then you use the HDD for data only.
You will have the speed of a SSD and the space of a HDD at low cost. That is what I have in my computer.

That's great, and I'm down to do that, but I don't want to lose all my user setting and the like. I have another HDD that I'm planning on installing Win10 on. Only reason I'm going to 10 is because a particular program I use for work has gone to it, and I'm basically forced to upgrade.

Most Win 7 settings won't be transferred to Win 10, not even all programs.

A SSD is 6 times faster than a HDD. It boots in 30 seconds and open programs at a blink on an eye.

You can dual boot Win 7 and win10 on the SSD without loosing your settings for win7.
To do it, I would like to see your drive configuration.

Will do, in the meantime though I've decided to thoroughly upgrade my HW though. New SSD, new MOBO, new CPU

New hardware will only be difficult to install win 7 but you can install win 10 pro using the Win 7 ultimate key.

Ok this is looking like it worked...however, when I used migwiz, it moved the account over to the C: drive, and it was on D: before. What do I do to get it back over on D: ? I can see the folder there, but it looks like I don't have permissions

You're using tools that you and I don't know what they do.
I think it's time to restore the images you did before.

I think I got this. It's working now. Now I got to get it to point back at my old profile folder
