Hi,
Couple things here ..
Trying to upgrade my sisters old .. 2004 .. Sony Vaio Media machine (PVC-A11L) from XP Media to 7 .. I'd go with 10 but it's an old E dual core, 3GB max, 32bit only .. if I can get a 32bit 10 .. maybe ..
1) how to get this XP machine to boot from a USB drive .. I can not find a Boot menu during startup (F12 .. ) .. there's boot order in BIOS but not what I'm wanting as it'd be one time only (unless I've got that wrong) ..
2) If I cannot get it to boot from usb, and as the machine is - old - how can I move the user files to a different (upgraded) machine .. move the entire user profile and files to a .. W10 or even W11 machine? Would I create a new user profile with the same name, then just copy all the XP user folders to that? I've done something similar to that but it always seems to be a franken-folder version ..
3) the media machine case layout is just .. weird, in that the PS sits directly over the CPU/fan so there is no swapping the mobo/fan for a iSocket board
plus its .. like .. 40lbs .. idk what is inserted inthe top part of the case .. maybe a woofer or .. idk, it's very heavy .. hence wanting to just put the old drive into a new machine and move to the 21st Century :/
So can I just copy XP user folders into a W7, 10 or even 11 install, maybe make a backup of XP users, restore it to 7, 10, or 11?
asking fer a friend ..
Paula
