DID a rip of favorite music and it plays fine on my tower computer but not in the car's cd. When I insert the Cd (in the car) it acknowledges its presence..ie, CD trk 1, will do a search but when playing a track there is no music. Any ideas? The radio is a Blaupunkt 520. Thx

Many car players won't play mp3s on a data disc, where you might put 230 songs of 3 MB each on a disc holding about 700 MB---using 690 of the 700 MB.

They will play only discs burned as music discs where the capacity is measured in minutes, about 80 minutes. So you'd have maybe 25 songs of maybe 3 minutes each---using 75 of the 80 minutes.

Either type will play in a PC.

I have no idea in which category your head unit fits, but that would be my first idea.

Car head units that will play only music discs were the most common type until the last few years. Most recent head units will play mp3s on data discs.

If you don't know which type of head unit you have, look in the manual or talk to Blaupunkt. Manuals are typically poor with insufficient information, so Blaupunkt customer service or Google search may be your best move.

This is from the manual on the 520:

4. 'CD ERROR' (after CD loading): CD
cannot be read anymore; after displaying
'CD ERROR' the radio ejects the CD.
Check if CD was loaded upside down
(the label surface should be facing
upwards). This message may also be
displayed if a CD is dirty or scratched.
Inspect the CD surface for problems and
clean if necessary. ***** "CD ERROR" will also
be seen when try to play e.g. MP3 CD, *****
Video CD, DVD or CD-ROM.

You want to try and rip to "audio cd" or similar name depending on your ripping program.
Even then, you may be out of luck.

Burn mp3 to CD

Well if the mp3's play fine when listening on your computer but don't play in your car take a look at the advice here:

Burning music files to a CD - Audacity Manual

Then adjust the settings for your CD burning software.

Note the following:

Audio CDs always contain uncompressed PCM stereo audio at 44100 Hz sample rate, 16-bit sample format. So to burn an audio CD, export the file(s) you want to burn as a 44100 Hz 16-bit stereo WAV or AIFF file.

I burn a lot of Audio CD's. Either from recording sessions in my studio or repeat business. In the last 6 weeks I've burned almost 200 audio CD's. I even bought a Primera Bravo Disc printer 2 months ago due to the volume (and Epson printers, that print on CD's seem to last about 2 years and then start going flakey).

What type of ink does the Primera Bravo Disc printer use? Do you still have to use the "printable CDs"? My Brother J870 prints CDs but you have to use the white printable discs. I tried printing on a standard disc after cleaning it with alcohol but it just beaded up and after three days the ink still wasn't dry. The printable discs work great though.

The Primera Bravo uses a proprietary ink cartridge (all in one). How long it lasts depends on the labels printed. Full color and it obviously won't last as long as black lettering. I got about 100 discs out of the original ink cartridge. Replacements are around $45. The price of the ink is included in my price for discs.

You have to use "ink jet printable" discs. I only use JVC Taiyo Yuden ink jet printable discs for my clients. They are considered, by most, to be the best on the market. The ones I use are marked "for professional use" but I suspect that is just a marketing ploy.

I have a bank of 5 USB connected PATA CD/DVD burners. They will burn audio CD's at 8X, my burn standard. Using Nero Burning ROM, I can burn 5 discs at a time.

LOL! I still have cassettes and vinyl, not to mention VHS and CD's.

I find that if I convert .mp3 to .wav and then burn to a CD-R, I can play the disc in any player, or at least I haven't found any that won't play the discs. I did try burning .wav files on to a CD-RW once and found that that disc wouldn't play in most CD players or DVD players.

First off many thx for all your contributions to my question. I went off the network for a few weeks and was so pleasantly surprised at all the responses.

I have, with your help, worked it all out now.

It is certainly true that to make an AUDIO CD it requires 44100 Hz/ 16 bit (as opposed to what i was doing - MP3) though after further reading found that creating a CUE file format completed the deal. It now all works in my car-car:) and I can give one away to my girlfriend who really likes the tracks...

So thx again to all for sharing.

There was a similar post from someone having a problem getting mp3 tracks from a USB stick to play. I'll repost my reply here as I had problem with the CD's as well :

I was having some problems with podcast mp3's playing in my car's factory CD player too. Some tracks played but the disc and track names were often garbled on the display. Some files, from one podcast source, always gave errors and would not play at all. Here is what I found to correct the problems :

- Make sure that you burn a Data disc, not an audio disc. Don't use Windows to burn discs; get a good, free burner like CDBurnerXP

- Make sure that your tags use ID3V2.3 ISO-8859-1 and not UDF ( I use MP3tag to edit my tags ). This solved the garbled text displayed.

- For some reason, removing all of the cover art made the unreadable files readable again and now they play just fine. It also made the transition from track to track much quicker in the car.

Hope that helps someone.

Yep, because sometimes its just easier to slip in a CD than sitting and mucking or fiddling about with playlists and touchscreens on a cell phone or mp3 player in traffic.

Same here. Most of the vinyl I haven't replaced with CDs is because it was never released on CD or in mp3. Never bought prerecorded cassettes, never sounded as good as what I recorded myself off vinyl or CD. Looooved making mixtapes. :D

Same goes with my small library of VHS, all videos never put out on DVD or BluRay.
