MP3s Playing in Wrong Order!

I copied a bunch of MP3s to a flash drive to play in my car while driving. However, some of the tracks are playing in the wrong order. For example, track 2 will play before track 1. I downloaded a metatag editor to edit the metadata, then saved the files, but the problem is still happening! What am I missing???

I would suspect the device you have in the car being the culprit.

Does the device support using a Playlist? It's also possible that the device has a shuffle feature that may need to be turned off.

I'd suspect it's playing the files in alphabetical order. Try renaming the files:

01 - song
02 - song
03 - song

etc

The device in question is my in-dash car stereo, a Kenwood KDC-255U In-Dash USB/CD Receiver. The shuffle mode is OFF, and I can plug my USB drive directly into the front of the unit. My tracks ARE numbered, but are numbered for example, Beatles - 01, Beatles - 02, etc. The tracks ARE playing in (roughly) alphabetical order, but the numerical sequence is still not right. I am perplexed...

As stated in my original post, I downloaded a metatag editor to edit the metadata, to no avail. I used Mp3tag to check the track titles, re-name them if necessary, then saved them back to the flash drive. But the problem still occurrs--they just will not play in the proper order! I don't think it is my in-dash stereo, as I can play the files in WinAmp on my PC and the problem happens there too. Weird...

Think I may have had a revelation while in the shower. Are you playing a multi-disc set? Perhaps the player is playing "01 - disc 1" then "01 - disc 2" then "02 - disc 1" and so on. If this is the case, you can change the numbering (both the track names and the tags, since we don't know which the player reads) to, instead of disc 1 track 1-10 and disc to track 1-10 simply to tracks 1-20.

I found the solution to the problem from this link:

Turns out it was my Kenwood in-dash stereo after all. I had to to rename the tracks at the beginning of the file name i.e.:

01-track
02-track

Not:

track-01
track-02
