mp4 files some are showing thumbs but why not all yet same camera etc.

Hi,
win7 64 bit pro.
windows explorer, or a file>open panel in a video editor, I cant see the .mp4 4k video thumbs of what I am trying to import to choose the one I want, just a few are displaying as thumbs, most are icons, all from the same camcorder., Sony AX100E.
jpgs show as thumbs from the same camcorder stills capture facility.


If I then open a folder with HD footage as .mp4 from the same camcorder they display as thumbs.



If I open a folder with .mov files from my Canon camera they show as thumbs.


Its as if the .mp4 4k are too 'heavy' a size for windows to thumb, but then some of those in the folder that are thumbs are larger files than those that are icons.

Have you got the codecs for 4k as it may need them

Hi,

If I am able to edit 4k mp4 in Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum, also Power Director 17 Ultra, and DaVinci Resolve, as well as play 4k in VLC, and KMplayer, having installed all these, and they would I presume bring in whatever was needed, and also as said that windows shows thumbs to some but not all the 4k mp4 in the win explorer window, do I need codecs ?


How can I find out what codecs I have ?


Codecs can be harmful to PCs conflicting etc so I need to tread carefully. I dont want to upset those installs with something different to what they have.

Hi,

I read into this for an hour on the www and others were getting such, its Msoft again being inadequate.


I tried the Media Preview prog install as folk said this is awesome, better than one beginning with L and whos icon is three black spheres and it solved it.
