What type of MP4 videos are they?

meaning do you know which video & audio codec they use?

I use sharks package as well, but configured it to use FFDshow. So far no issues this way.

For AAC audio in Direct show you may want to try Monogram rather than FFDshow..
reason is: If its stereo AAC then its OK, but if its 5.1 AAC FFDshow will crash WMP. (at least in the 32bit player. WMC is fine
Monogram works well.

((Unless this was fixed in newest update of FFDshow.. seen Shark updated it just havent tested yet))

Try these settings to see if helps you: (if you havent already)

Thanks for the quick reply...I have set the options as shown, but still no joy...I can use VLC for H264 files if need be, but would rather not if I dont have to... any other ideas?

You have both the 32bit and the 64bit add-on (if your running 64bit)
It should work with those settings. Bit odd it isn't.
In fact, WMP should be able to play MP4s without the codec pack (even tho FFDshow looks & sounds better IMO) it should play none-the-less :-/

Unless the file is corrupt, I dont know what else to suggest. :(

Other than under MP4 TAB:
You may want to try swithching the splitter from the default Gabest to haali .. Not sure if that would help though.

As advertised, a default installation of my codecs does not mess with the native decoding.
MP4 is a native filetype handled by the Windows 7 Operating System.

The only way to defeat this and actually use my codecs for the filetype,
is to choose to disable the Microsoft Video decoder on the SWAP TAB.

I also recommend using the suggested settings at the bottom.
Most all of your avi and h264 files will play in the Windows players if choosing this selection.
If an avi has multiple audio tracks, choosing the haali splitter on the avi tab will handle these types best.
avi files that are somewhat damaged can still be played by choosing to use gabests splitter.
