Solved MS 16 error message .22

I recently downloaded MS 16 on my pc with no problems. However, when downloaded to my laptop, I cannot open files, there is always an error message stating . 'Sorry, something went wrong and word was unable to start. (22)'

I am sure there must be a conflict with elements of previous word 2013 but Try as I may I cannot find anything still lurking there. Does anybody know the meaning of--- 22, which must be a clue. Advice sorely needed -thanks

My crystal ball is being RMA at this time. Don't know when I will get it back or replaced.

When I Google MS-16 I get all kinds of things and none of them are Microsoft Office.

Hi lugger, welcome to the Forum.

I assume you are referring to Word 2016. There is not a lot of info on the web about problems with Office 2016 yet, so this MS website for a similar problem with Word 2007 & 2010 might help.

You could also phone MS for support if you have just bought Office 2016 from MS.

Many thanks for the responses to my cryptic question. Yes, indeed it it MS Word 2016 - sorry about the confusion.
Yes, Widows 7 home premium but not sure about the 32 bit.
Ranger 4 is probably right, I will track down Microsoft support as indeed this is a new multi-user purchase.
I will come back with any updates as soon as I have anything sensible to add.

Sorry for the delay but life just gets in the way.
Had very poor contact with Microsoft support.
Call 1, after my explanation of the problem, a young lady took control of the laptop, All sorts of on screen activities took place including downloading office again and then - nothing! I waited for a long time with no apparent activity and realized I had been cut-off. I had been on the phone for approx 3/4 hour.

Call 2. I started all over again and this time a different lady took control. Many more things happened but I was told to hang on for someone more specialist. I hung on for approx 1/2 hour before another lady came on line. She took a different approach. But, made various 'rash' statements eg, Word 16 can only operate as .docx not .doc plus other strange and seemingly wild suggestions. I told her that it all worked very well on the desktop! During this -lengthy- and unproductive discussion, I realized that I could no longer open any existing document. The W logo was missing from each file. Things carried on haphazardly for perhaps an hour before I realized I had been cut-off. She had just put the phone down!.
I was left with having to uninstall and then re-install Office 2016 again.
After this I was back where I was to start with. Word 2016 works fine with the desktop but not the laptop.
When life gives me a little more time I will escalate my approach to Microsoft and will be pleased to let You all know the outcome.

Is your 2016 version of Office licensed for use on more that one computer. If not then that is very likely the cause of it not working on your laptop.

Thanks for replying. It is starting to look like you have a conflict with left over Office 2013 bits.

Perhaps this MS website might be worth checking out & there is a Mr Fixit for removing Office 2013 completely & there is also a link for doing it manually as well, if that does not work.

While you are at it you had better remove Office 2016 as well so you start off with a clean installation. The MS website below has that as well.

Do be careful when you are editing the Registry if you have to use the manual method, as mistakes can wreck the operating system.

At long last success. The reason turned out to be very simple, but up to 4 MS personnel had difficulties. Number 4 went through all the same process of uninstalling - re-installing etc without shifting the problem.
However, after an hour of manipulation, he hit upon the 'protected view' options, all of which were checked (not by me-I didn't know they existed).
Once unchecked, all worked fine.!!!!
He agreed that all MS help staff should be advised just what error message 22 meant. This would have saved many hours of time wasting.

Okay, so I had the same issue and was looking on the web for the solution and came across this thread, just wanted to share how I fixed it.

1) click on properties of the file you want to open
2) check at the bottom of properties window and click unblock

sometimes the files sent on mail can't be opened as they are from another computer.

I hope this helps someone.I struggled a whole 2 hours figuring this out LOL
