Haven't heard of these, but it's a jungle out there. I avoid anything that wants personal info. unless I'm buying something from a trusted source. Don't even like that much. I've even had cashiers ask me for an address when making a purchase and I tell them no way. Not even the town or state.

No, I hadn't heard of these either. I'm with you on leaving as little info as possible.

Unfortunately in today's world of credit cards, it's impossible to not have all your credit purchases tracked then be bombarded with targeted advertising. With RFID chips being permanently attached to products, the retailer's scanner marries your personal ID with the product ID of the item you just bought. Let's say it's a shirt. Sometime later you go shopping wearing that shirt. When you walk into a store, the scanner reads the RFIDs in the items you are wearing and the RFID tag in your credit cards. Your recent purchasing history is retrieved from an online database and presto, the monitor in the aisle in front of you is advertising products that have been determined to be of interest to you. Of course these are benign uses of the technology. The dark side of this can get pretty scary.

Seriously though, it's the junk mail and spam I'm interested in avoiding. Made the mistake of donating to one of those charities that send you return address labels for donating to them. It was a good cause and I thought what the heck. Suddenly my mailbox filled up with other charities that do the same. I now have 5 lifetime supplies of address labels. Never again.

I don't use any of those sites, but you shouldn't put anything on any of them that you wouldn't print in the news paper or say in a room full of strangers. They've busted a couple parties around here with underage drinkers due to facebook. Someone got invited/wind of it and posted it on facebook. So the bad guys and the police are watching.
