When MS offered us all the special deals on the various upgrades, Windows 2000 was one of the qualifying operating systems.

It was clearly stated on various MS websites.

Now MS has changed its mind and now is disallowing Win 2000.

Windows 7 - Buy and download from Microsoft Store

Most people could not care less but it does show MS's state of mind
if nothing else.

I hope we users that have ordered upgrade media are not in for too much
of a problem when we actually get the discs and see just what is involved with installation and re installation.

Honestly, I wouldn't be purchasing an upgrade version until all the "rules" are officially announced, as to what qualifies, does it need to be installed and activated, etc. It's been known for a while now that the Vista double install trick would probably not be allowed, but even that hasn't been made completely official as of yet.

If I was looking to purchase Windows 7 right now, I'd either buy a full retail version, or look into TechNet.

I seem to remember 2000 qualifying previously.

Those who have already ordered expecting 2000 to qualify will, I expect, be fine.

There is bound to be a way to clean install with the upgrade license.

i would just be happy with the fact that they are allowing an upgrade from XP as well as Vista. Typically, MS and other companies won't allow you to upgrade from anything but the previous version.

Microsoft have allowed upgrading from previous 2 versions at least for Vista and XP.....I mean that covers 8 years or so....it isn't Like there is a long history involved here. :D
