I have a question.

With regards to MS .net framework, when I go into admin tools> services

and I go to it, it is showing:

Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X86

but I thought I saw .... somewhere in my system, that my .NET framework was up around v.3.0 or 3.5 .

Is there somewhere else I may have seen this that someone can think of. I have tried searching Start, and neither come up.

Kinda stumped.

v3.0 is in addition to v2.0, it doesn't replace it. Check the optional downloads available in Windows Updates and see if it is available.

Ok, will check, maybe that was where I saw it, in updates.

So in effect if it is not offered for update, I more than likely have already have it, and it is OK for it to show up as:

Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X86

in services.

I will look thru updates. Thanks for tip.

EDIT: was there thank you

Open Control Panel, Program and Features, and on top left of screen click on Turn Windows features on or off. Should show Microsoft .NET 3.5.1.

.NET Framework 3.5

Version 3.5 of the .NET Framework was released on 19 November 2007, but it is not included with Windows Server 2008. As with .NET Framework 3.0, version 3.5 uses the CLR of version 2.0. In addition, it installs .NET Framework 2.0 SP1, (installs .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 with 3.5 SP1) and .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 (installs .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 with 3.5 SP1), which adds some methods and properties to the BCL classes in version 2.0 which are required for version 3.5 features such as Language Integrated Query (LINQ). These changes do not affect applications written for version 2.0, however.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework#cite_note-22

I found this online. Is this wrong? It would indicate since Window 7 includes .NET 3.5.1 as a feature then .NET 2.0 and 3.0 are included and there should not be a need to download any .NET programs.

Hello !!

There is nothing to worry. I believe upto .NET 3.5 all the version and pre-installed on Windows 7 !! And .NET 2.0 requries a service to install .NET based application that is the reason you found the .NET 2.0 in the services. Unlike other application each .NET Porgram is dependent each other. That is in-order for .NET 3.5 to work we need .NET 3.0 and .NET 3.0 to work we need .NET 2.0 to be install first and .NET 1.0 and .NET 1.1 is independent.

Hope this helps,
Captain

So it being labelled 2.0 is probably residual from Vista? I am sure nothing to worry about, like you said, just interested.

I am going to read up some on .NET as I have no idea what it's purpose is, like 90% of the stuff in my system LOL

Sorry if this is a noob response.
