MS Office 2007 problem

Hi,
This is my first post to this forum. I just purchased a new ACER laptop with
Win 7 on it, and am trying to activate the 60 day Office 7 tryout. When I click on the link to take me to the site to enable it, I keep getting "Failure to connect to web server." I have Firefox and Internet Explorer and both work fine.

When I try to open a Word document I am prompted for my 25 character code. When I put it in get a response that it is invalid.

I'm feeling inclined to remove Office 7 and install my copy of Office 2003.

Also I'm getting a glitchy feeling that I may not be able to uninstall
Office 7 easily.

Can someone give me some hope in navigating this very foreign OS?
thanks.

What key are you entering? I hope its not the one at the back of your computer. The Office trial key would be on its own package in your computer kit.

I'm using the product key on the bottom of the laptop - 25 characters.
On the desktop I clicked an icon for the 60 day trial, and it takes me to a window to either activate, buy, or try Office 78. Activating won't accept the key I've got.

I don't understand where I type in the product key if I don't have to get on the internet.

There is no "computer kit." No Windows disc. I got the laptop from Staples, with Win 7 already installed.

Sorry. I know this probably sounds confusing. If you could just outline the basic steps I need to do that would be fine.

I am also ok with getting rid of Office 7 and installing Office 2003 (which I already have on disc), except I'm not sure the best way to do it.
Thanks

That key on the bottom is most likely for the Operating System, not Office. You need to buy it to get a valid key.

Hi Michaelas,

I agree with Jeffro75. Most laptops do not come with Microsoft Office (unless you specifically paid for it). I am guessing the key that you are entering is the product key for Windows 7 that came preinstalled on your laptop.

Try going here to download the trial of Microsoft Office 2007 - Try Microsoft Office 2007 - Download Microsoft Office Software. And, here are the set up and installation directions - Set Up and Installation - Microsoft Office 2007 Trial Software Customer Support. At the end of the 60-day trial period, you will have the option to purchase Office 2007.

Or, if you'd rather wait until next month, you can purchase Office 2010 instead :) (or, you can pre-order now - Compare Office 2010 Suites – Preorder from Microsoft Store)

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies. You're right. The code I was putting in was for Windows 7, not Office 2007. Oh well. Live & learn! Anyway, I did manage to get the trial version of Office 2007 and am checking it out. I'm happy again!

Appreciate the help!!
