MS Office 2013

I just got MS Office 2013 and have a question about it. All of the programs have a white background. Do I need to changed my Theme to get color or is it just different than the Office 2003 I had before?

Office 2013 - follows the guidelines, for appearance, that Microsoft has set for use with Windows 8 - you can expect other developers to follow suit, Indeed I have seen a few already.

I still find it a little stark, but I suppose that the thinking behind it is sound - The application you are using should not stand out and overpower the actual work you are doing, akin to the fact that a painting or photograph often looks better in a plain rather than in an ornate frame.

The new look does take some getting used to, time will tell if it actually grows on people

I agree with all the replies, that there is very little you can do about the themes other than the 4 offered which all seem very similar to me. However, I have been using Office 2103 since last July & I have got used to it & it really no longer worries me.
