Solved MS Publisher 2003 not updating web files

I have made changes to my web site using Publisher 2003 (in which it was created), but when I hit "Publish to the web" neither the folder "index_files" nor the file "index.htm" update. The "Last modified" date stays at 2014, when the other files show today's date. When I upload using FileZilla, the web site remains the 2014 version. The site was created in 2012, and I have made other changes previously with the same software and same computer. What am I missing this time?

Welcome to the forum. If your uploading via FTP it's not a publisher problem. When you upload it should ask do you want to overwrite. Go the other way and download the file and see if it's the new file. One thing to check is the upload if your site is set to start index.htm and you don't set it right in Windows it may upload Index.htm Linux is case sensitive so it won't see the file or use it a common fault

Thanks for the reply! The reason that I thought it was Publisher is that the "index_file" folder and the "index.htm" file are in the folder where the web site files are located, before ever going to FileZilla. Shouldn't they have today's date in their properties if I "published to the web" today?

The index.htm is lower case, and I do check the overwrite box.

Thanks!

Does it run correct locally and did filzillia ask about overwriting?

I'm not sure what you mean by "run correct locally."

When I start the file transfer in FileZilla, a dialogue box opens, and "Overwrite" is checked by default; which I leave that way.

If by "run correct locally" you mean does it all work when I click "Preview your web site...", yes it does. All of my changes are there, and all of the internal links work.

Attached is a screen shot from FileZilla. Notice that the files named "... 7-16-17.pub" have last-modified dates of 7/16/2017. The "index_file" folder and the "index.htm" file have the date 8/4/14, which is the last date I changed the web site. Shouldn't these files be updating when I hit "Publish to the web?" The still match the last date that I published to the web.

More clues.

I rebooted the computer on the off chance the latest FileZilla update hadn't "taken," but there was no change.

Next, I created and "Archive" folder, and moved all of the web site files there, except the .pub file. At that point, it should have looked to Publisher like a brand new web site, with nothing to overwrite. When I ran "Publish to the web," it created a folder named "ftp.filezilla.com.files" and a file named "ftp.filezilla.com.htm," but no "index.htm" file. Transferring the new files through FileZilla did not update the website.

Thanks for continuing to think about this for me!

I probably don't have anything to add, but I used to maintain two webs sites and used FrontPage 2003, never considered Publisher 2003, although I had it as part of Office 2003 Professional. I had no problems uploading using FrontPage 2003, although I switched to a new web site provider (Blue Host) and used their file manager and could access my web site file on my hard drive from their utility and upload files that I added or changed.

FrontPage 2003 was specifically for creating and maintaining web sites.

The HTML code in the 2003 products are way behind the current net standards (and security). I moved on to the (free) Microsoft Expression Web 4 that replaced FrontPage versions and has more current HTML. I would suggest downloading and using the Expression Web 4.
Download Microsoft Expression Web 4 (Free Version) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Will changing to Expression require me to recreate my web site, or will it recognize and accept the Publisher files?

Thanks!

I don't know about the Publisher files, but it accepted and worked with my FrontPage 2003 files.

I'll save everything to an archive folder and give it a shot.

Thanks!

I downloaded and installed Expression, but I couldn't find a way to import my Publisher files. Under Files there is an Import selection, but it was grayed out. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I was able to import (use) all my web site pages (htm) from FrontPage 2003 in the new program.

If its an htm (html) page it should open in Expression.

Here is a screenshot of my Expression and the files from my old web site (its been discontinued).
