I regularly use chinese. Applications and so forth. I noticed that after the great update release of 11/13/12 from microsoft that I couldn't see the characters in the application names (start menu, nor the title bar) so I could tell what it was in some cases?! Sometimes these applications would still work because internally they have there own fonts. I can use the chinese keyboard into MS word, or even I assume into this box, but this going to be an issue for many people I assume.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Work machine performed similiar great 11/13 updates

However I did not experience the loss of chinese start-menu fonts. So I took a snap-shot of my work-machines list of 'sucessful' updates, and I plan on comparing them to my laptop. One of the major differences is this: Work machine had to update: Vs2010/2012 4.5 framework, Win 7 Prof, and Office 2010. as opposed to my laptops older... Office 2007 and I didn't see any framework updates as I recall - this machine also has Windows 7 prof 64.

(edit the above text... forgot it is my laptop that has the issue which was rebuilt with Windows 7 professional 64, the Item in the battery compartment says its supposed to be Vista 32 bit.)

Activation issue???

To Noel? Am I posting to the wrong forum. I'm attempting to get help on particular updates. I'm not having any issue with 'genuine activation'. Or are you responding blindly without reading my post?

There are many shared processes between updates and activation/validation, and the tool checks out a number of files and registry entries that are common to both - and also gives indications of other problems.

Well I feel sheepish. I got home, the computer found even more updates, and after a reboot the fonts were working again. -- as with anything in windows (when in doubt reboot)
