Hello,

Sr. Citizen now, very, so please bear with me a bit.

Want to get MS PowerPoint for my son who needs it for a Course he
is taking.

Wow, have they ever made it difficult to figure out what to get, and now with the renewals, time limits, etc.

So,

Is it (still) possible to purchase a simple MS CD with just Power Point on it ? If so, where and how ?

- no time restrictions, etc.
- definitely a CD, as his PC hangs up often with big downloads. (he's running W7 on an older PC)

Might as well also ask: is there a free copy-cat version (like Libre or Open Office that I've heard about)
that is really close to Power Point ? It's for a Course, so would have to be a really close and good substitute.

Much thanks,
appreciate the help,
Bob

LibreOffice does have a feature similar to PowerPoint; it is called Impress. Apache OpenOffice also has the same name for its PP competitor.

One good thing about LO is that you can run the Portable version, which doesn't require installation.

I can't comment on how close LO Impress is to PowerPoint, but its worth the time to download and check it out.

Good luck.

You might want to start here:
https://products.office.com/en-us/student/office-in-education

Office 365 Education is a collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your schoolwork. It’s available for free to students who are currently attending an academic institution. Office 365 Education includes Office Online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote), 1TB of OneDrive storage, Yammer, and SharePoint sites. Some schools allow students to install the full Office applications on up to 5 PCs or Macs for free. If your school provides this additional benefit, you'll see the Install Office button on your Office 365 home page after you complete sign-up.

Just a humdrum little system.
You might check to see if he is eligible for: https://www.dreamspark.com/
Dreamspark is a good idea for some things, but unfortunately it doesn't provide Powerpoint. However, some educational institutions do provide Dreamspark Premium, and that does provide Office applications, but the student has to be a member of the relevant academic program in order to access it.
