I've see a few systems (Win 7 and Vista) where this update gets installed and later shows up again as an available update:
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2013 (KB890830)

So far, the 2nd update seems to fix it so it isn't re-offered again.
I don't think it's a big deal as it's a scan and doesn't update anything as far as I know.
Just weird...
The monthly MSRT has never found anything for me, do these scans ever find anything for anyone?

Received it a second time yesterday also, thought it was strange.

No, never found a thing, I wonder what it actually does as I never even see it.

I too have been offered the Malicious Software Removal Tool upgrade for a second time. Thus far I haven't installed it again, I prefer to wait and see if Microsoft sort out the duplication and if not I'll probably hide the second prompt rather than take the unnecessary risk of re-installing it.

I had all sorts of problems with the update from Patch Tuesday. I posted that in another thread. Took me over 2 hours and 2 repairs of .Net.

Same here on all 3 rigs.

Apparently M$ "forgot" to ship the new (5.x) version of MSRT on Tuesday (4.22)???
What they shipped today for MSRT (KB890830) was the new version.

Hope this helps...

And a Win7/64 Pro laptop; And a Win10/64 Pro desktop.
Thanks for the explanation, MoxieMomma.

I've now successfully installed the repeat update on one of my machines, which completes this month's updates on that machine, and have also successfully installed all updates on my other machine. Perhaps MS have sorted the duplicate now and I have therefore installed the right one first time on the second machine but time will tell.

Just now I also ran into the double Malicious Software Removal Tool when updating a clean install. At first I thought the first install attempt failed, it did not. Then I Googled and ended up here. Seems I'm not the only one. Shouldn't MS have fixed this by now?
