Solved ms word 2000 opens read only in win 7

I have xp, win7 & win10 on computer.
Just discovered all word docs open in readonly mode. fiddling with attributes & permissions on the file or folder does not seem to help.
docs open normally in xp & win10.

Right click on file, open properties. And then even if read only is not checked, check it, click apply. Then deselect it and click ok.

no, that didn't do anything.
wierd problem as excel files open normally & the dir or attrib command & explorer don't show read only attribute for docs yet all docs open read only with ms word.

You can try this:
1. Open the folder you have the file, click Shift and right click and select Open command window here.

2. Type the following command "takeown /F word.doc".
wrd1.png
4. Right click on the file and then click properties
wrd1.png
5. Navigate to Security tab, then Edit... button and Allow everything for all users.

It was the bloody avg antivirus!
when I disabled it word worked normally so I added an exception.
I 1st tried booting in safe mode & it also worked that way.
thanks for the response anyway.
