Hi all,

I have windows 7 ultimate 32-bit installed on a Samsung N210 netbook with 2GB RAM, and have a question whether it's safe to un-check/disable the following items under 'Startup' tab via MSConfig:

Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
Intel(R) Common User Interface igfxtray.exe
Intel(R) Common User Interface hkcmd.exe
Intel(R) Common User Interface igfxpers.exe

Thanks in advance

Hi fkhan, welcome to the forums

The first one is for the pointing device, if your netbook doesn't have one, I believe it is safe to disable.

The others (ref.: processlibrary.com)

igfxtray.exe is a process which allows you to access the Intel Graphics configuration and diagnostic application for the Intel 810 series graphics chipset. This program is a non-essential system process, and is installed for ease of use via the desktop tray.

hkcmd.exe is installed alongside Intel multimedia devices and allows configuration and diagnostic options for these devices. "This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

igfxpers.exe is a process installed alongside NVidia graphics cards and provides additional configuration options for these devices. "This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

you can also check bleepingcomputer.com for advice

What I recommend you do:
create a system restore point
disable the programs one at a time and verify if anything you use is not working anymore, if so, enable it back
If things get too messy, restore it to the point you created
