Solved MSE slow bootup after re-install OS and using SSD

hey all! ok, so i got a new motherboard and had to re-install the OS. prior to this, my computer would boot very quickly to the desktop, no issues, i was using microsoft security essentials. my OS is on my SSD as well. after re-installing the OS and putting MSE back on, my computer now gets to the desktop and it seems to freeze.

i watch the taskbar in the bottom right and after about a minute and a half, MSE loads and then all the rest of the programs start just fine. its like MSE is holding up the rest of the programs from starting and even the internet will not connect until MSE is done.

anyone have similar issues or any ideas how to fix it?

Take a look inside the Startup tab inside msconfig . Uncheck everything except for MSE .

i purchased the OS from a store years ago when i built my computer.

i unchecked all from msconfig startup tab and left MSE. that was interesting! it seems MSE is not the problem, but what is slowing my system down on startup is the network connection. it takes the computer quite a while just to establish a network connection. i did install up to date drivers for my motherboard when i installed the board roughly a week and a half ago. not sure what the problem is now.

Did you install the Software that goes with the Ethernet port or just the Driver ? What motherboard do you have for the custom built PC.

as far as i know there isnt any software for the ethernet port, just a driver. i now have an ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0

Do you have the ASUS AI Suite II installed or the AiCharger installed ?

yes, i am using the ASUS AI Suite II and the AiCharger program is installed.

Try to Uninstall those programs and see if that fixes your issue .

i've done that several times already with no luck. i actually only just yesterday re-installed the AI Suite II so i could use fanxpert with my new fans i installed yesterday.

yes. i just installed it and rebooted and the issue is still happening.

ok, here's the files. it told me i had to zip the "attach" file so i'm just sending all.

I saw that you had Avast . See if you could use the tool below to do a clean uninstall

Download aswclear.exe on your desktop
Start Windows in Safe Mode
Open (execute) the uninstall utility
If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
Click REMOVE
Restart your computer

Also you would want to do is uncheck everything except for the MSE program inside the msconfig Startup tab . There are some programs still running when the PC boots up . Click on Apply then Ok buttons and click on Exit without Restart and restart the PC manually .

yea i had installed avast to give it a try at faster booting, but it was just way too annoying of a program. ill try and get rid of that completely.

i know there are other programs booting on startup. i need those programs to start. are you saying to uncheck everything just for what we are doing?

Yes you don't need anything running at startup except for the MSE antivirus . We could always place a check mark back .

ok, i used the program and got rid of avast. it prompted me to reboot afterward so i did. same thing still happens. it takes forever for the network to connect.

i had a thought. after i re-installed the OS i went to the asus support website to download drivers. i wasnt thinking and clicked on the wrong location to download the drivers from and it asked me to install some kind of "akamai network interface."

i uninstalled this program after i realized what i was doing, however, under the startup tab in msconfig there is still a check box for akamai network service. i'm wondering if that is messing with something with the network?

Take a look at Services

Open up the Run window by pressing the Windows logo key ( rb: ) and the R key . Inside the Run window type services.msc and click Ok button . If the service is running Stop the service . First right click on the Service then click Stop then right click on the service name choose startup type then choose Disable

   Tip

When downloading Drivers off the Asus Support web page choose Global instead of Global (DLM)
