I use it but only in conjunction with my Kaspersky Firewall & anti-Virus I have noticed that Kaspersky has caught a few Java script Trojan's that have been sent to me on Hotmail that MSE has not caught I feel safer with both and also have Malwarebytes installed too.

I use NOD32 and MSE. Both are very good. If I personally had to pay for NOD32 then I would switch to MSE, but since my friend pays for the multi-license every 2 years, I'll continue to use NOD32 on my main machine.
My HTPC has MSE on it since it is free and works good (still misses things so Malwarebytes is good to run periodically to keep things in check.)

I would try to but i am banned from the local Best Buy *3 around the 3 cities along with Staples. Wall-mart could careless but I haven't walked into that place in 5 years now. Circuit city is gone so yea. I have to disguise myself sometimes If I have to buy something and cant wait to buy it. Simple stuff but thats about it. I really like MSE and it is easy on the PC's I install it for people.

Recently I cleaned some poor souls PC with over 90 infections and several hundred ad-ware programs infecting every single part of computer, and it had no such service packs. Norton was installed on it and was crappy.

I'll agree that extra features may help - like Pulse Updates - in the new Norton's but MSE has everything you need for nothing. I'd rather spend cash on RAM or another HDD then an antivirus app.

I had to repair a laptop today that was infected with the Antivirus Soft rogue spyware program.
this is one of the rogue programs that says every file you open is infected, making the machine totally unusable, unless you give them money for the program.

Norton was installed and up to date on this laptop and didn't catch it. rkill and malwarebytes took care of it but took about 4 hours of scanning (scanned the machine 3 times).
Since she paid for Norton 2 months ago she wants to use it till it expires then will go with MSE.

You wont find many here that suggest using Norton, and then you also wont find many here that suggest having and running two AV's at once on a single system.

I was browsing a random PC store and of course saw copies of Kaspersky and Norton. However, with Microsoft Security Essentials, these are now unnecessary. I decided to post this. So, at the risk of being booted out of stores, advise people looking for new antimalware apps to get MSE:

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

lets see we have windows by microsoft, which has a built-in firewall created by microsoft, with a extremely intrusive built-in media player created by microsoft, with an update program that the default setting is to download and install the updates without asking permission and you want us to allow microsoft to encroach even further. i don't think so.

Regardless of who makes MSE, it is a good program.

If MSE were by Norton, I would still use it, because it is the program I like, not necessarily the developer.

If you have a grudge against the program, that's fine. But just because MS makes a product doesn't mean we should boycott it.

Uh...Unless you set Windows Update to do so during Windows Setup...Windows Updates will never download and install automatically. Strike 1

MSE is an optional download...and a damn good anti-virus to boot. Strike 2

You can turn off the firewall at anytime. Strike 3

Three strikes...your out!

for the record the default is still auto download and auto install. i did not say you could not change it. no one sees any problems with allowing ms to protect your system after all the trouble they got into after xp was released and their collecting info they had no right to?
