MSE vs Other security software

I'm considering using MSE. I currently have Zone Alarm, AVG and Malwarebytes running on my system. Any comments on eliminating AVG and Malwarebytes and installing MSE instead. ( I dont believe MSE can replace the firewall software).

I and many others, use MSE, the Windows Firewall and the free Malwarebytes. Using that software with a little common sense will keep you well protected.

I'm one of those many others. Totally satisfied, combination of Windows Firewall and MSE is enough at least for me.

Personally, I use ESET Smart Security.

I have tried MSE on my XP laptop and I did not see any particular performance advantage over ESET. What I mean, is that any computer runs faster without resident security software, that's obvious. Different anti-virus and firewall suites slow you down somewhat differently. I changed to MSE on my older laptop hoping to gain some performance relative to how it worked with ESET, but did not notice (subjectively, no benchmarking) much difference. Thus on my main computer I am sticking with ESET (it's already paid for, anyway).

At the same time, my main interest in the firewall is not really to keep things from getting into my computer - the hardware firewall (NAT) in my router does that rather well. What I am most interested in is to control which app running on my computer wants to connect to the internet and where it wants to go there. ESET provides me with a convenient (for me at least) way to do this. It pops up a question any time any app wants to connect to the internet and I have a power to prevent them from doing so if that's what I want.

The actual anti-virus and anti-malware part of the suite I use rather rarely. I haven't seen a virus for many years. I think if you don't open spam emails or use web-based email for that matter and don't go to 'suspicious" web sites (e.g. porn, "warez", and so on) then you're quite safe from viruses.

My bank has even admitted to me they cant guarentee my safety. So thats why im useing lua, sandboxie, returnil, 7 firewall, and mse. This has kept superantispyware, and malwarebytes dead silent for sometime now.

Dead silent? No need to get paranoid about security. I only use MSE + Malwarebytes with the occasional scan of SuperAntiSpyware Portable. Common sense is enough.

I have no problem with that. But all these programs you use may have flaws in the future that leave you exposed anyway. No security setup is 100% safe and there will never be one.

Yes in the future i may have problems, but i dont want to turn a deaf ear to the distant early warning either. I must plod on, reading, testing, looking for the new, and or best way to stay ahead of the inpending catastrophic termoil ahead:shock: Not pretending what works for me, or you now will remain this way because of a misguided, and delusional view of my own abilities. But i do see your point.

MSE + Avast + MBAM (with real-time protection) = Overkill

I wouldn't get rid of Malwarebytes unless it's causing a problem.

MSE generally "plays well" with other AV's, so you may want to choose to keep AVG on there.

Don't discount any added layer of protection you can get, it can only help.

For the most part if you have a good AV, MSE (you choice), a decent firewall and a malware scanner, that should be good.

I run Norton 360, MSE, Comodo firewall, and do regular scans with Malwarebytes. They all play well together.

Why is there so much confusion and needless agonizing? One realtime antivirus (like NIS or MSE or Avast or Kaspersky etc.) plus one on-demand scanner (like MBAM or Hitman etc.) plus a firewall (windows firewall is adequate but you may have a liking for a 3rd party) is sufficient and adequate. Adopt safe surfing habits and dont click randomly. Thats all.

i know people with 20 locks on their front door and car. it's a real hassle trying to get in and out, even legitimately.

okay i exaggerate.

if you live in a dangerous neighbourhood (or use dangerous software from dangerous websites) you need more security precautions as a result.

for the average joe, living in an average neighbourhood, mse + windows firewall + mbam = secure

I run MSE, with MBAM, with Spyware Blaster. I leave UAC on, the Windows firewall on and I use a hardware based NAT router. I don't use warez sites, I don't download movies or music, I don't visit P2P sites, I have no needs for keygens or crack sites and I try to avoid visiting adult sites. Not surprising, I have no problems.
