MSI GTX 460 BSOD on startup / visual glitches on every driver

Hello all,

I've been experiencing some driver fails with many official NVIDIA drivers. As last I was happy with my 331.93 driver until yesterday. Recently my LCD SyncMaster920NW monitor has been dead (inverter/capacitor). And I started to use old SyncMaster793 CRT monitor which supports maximum 60hz on 1280x1024.

Yesterday I tried to force my monitor to 68 hertz. Everything seemed okay. After a few hours while on a video game gpu stopped responding. Then I restarted PC, and started to get BSOD 116 after Windows Loading screen. Deleted custom resolution in safe mode. It didn't work. Then deleted leftovers with DriverSweeper. Tried other drivers. (306.97, 331.82, 332.21). I did driversweep after each failing one.

I did a gpu stress test with: ËÈ×ÍÀß ÑÒÐÀÍÈ×ÊÀ ×ÅÐÊÅÑÀ ÌÈÕÀÈËÀ
There was no error.

Then I did a system recovery. No luck.

Also I tried windows update's driver so I made into a game but experienced some visual glitches. Strange lines etc. Then get BSOD.

I plugged in/out gpu/ram/psu cables after these steps but got no luck. So I created a dump file. And waiting for your suggestions.

Note1: There are no overheating on GPU or CPU.
Note2: There is no virus.
Note3: My PSU is 550W Thermaltake TR2 RX.

Edit1: Tried stock driver that came with GPU (261.01). When I run a video game in windowed mode there is no problem. But when I switch to fullscreen, visual glitches happening and after that Windows isn't booting (Getting BSOD 117).

Your detailed post makes the situation much more clear.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

First of all thanks for your attention.

According to "extreme power supply calculator"

Minimum PSU wattage: 452W
Recommended PSU wattage: 502W

My Thermaltake TR2 RX supplies 550W.

Now tried to driversweep and install nvidia drivers again but unable to boot system with drivers. Tried 3 different drivers. So I am unable to open Furmark.

So under this circumstances running Speccy in safe mode won't be accurate of course. But as far I monitored while system running normally, CPU is around 30-50 degree ('C/Celsius) and GPU on 35-40 when Idle, and 40-55 under web surfing usage and up to 90-95 degree according to game thanks to my mini ATX chasis. If fan/chasis is dirty, this leads to freezes due overheating when season is summer (It is spring right now).

So, I believe it has nothing to do with overheating/cooling. And about stress test; when I managed to get work on first reboot after driver installation I tried to play a game. And after some point it started to give visual glitches like strange lines/deformed polygons etc. As last, if I won't quit or alt+tab from fullscreen game fail keeps happening and ends up with BSOD. And if I quit, after some point it gives BSOD anyway.

And I haven't got any chance like trying gpu on another rig or using another clean OS installed HDD until tomorrow. But, I can't predict anything else anymore. Though I don't have advanced technical knowledge about hardware (I am a jr. software dev.).

If we won't count driver fails before that case, I've never been encountered that kinda problem.

Now I'll try installing clean windows on second partition. I'll keep you updated if it is succeeds. Also I am ready if you got something for me.
UPDATE: I just installed .net 4.0 and nvidia driver to clean windows installation and it stuck on black screen on startup after driver installation. I guess things slides to hardware.

EDIT: I saw some RAM related error similar to my case. Now will run memtest. If there is no error, I'll try pre-boot VRAM tests.

EDIT2: RAM is clean. Now will check vram.

FINAL EDIT:

I am giving up. Anything that uses GPU other than generic drivers is glitchy. I am unable to use any stress test apps. So, I tried to boot Ubuntu but even on first wallpaper there was some yellow-pink dots and as far we can predict, it stuck there.


Only thing I haven't done is testing it in another rig. And I'll try that tomorrow.
I am waiting for your directions. (Also what do you think about oven trick ?)
