MSVCP71.dll missing

Hey there, im missing the MSVCP71.dll file and without it i cant run this GPU gems 2 example program. I might be able to kill two birds with one stone if it turns out that that gets downloaded as part of an old version of MSVC++ because i've been wondering what version of visual studio they built their solutions in since they never seem to convert to 2005 or 2008.

Any help would be appreciated.

MSVCP71.dll originally shipped with Visual Studio .NET, and gets used for VC++ applications that use the standard C++ runtime during compile. The applications that require it are supposed to redistribute it, but I believe you can also get a copy by installing the Visual C++ Runtime Redistributable from Microsoft as well. Given it's from VS .NET, you can probably get it from the 2005, 2008, or 2010 redistributable packages, but I can confirm that the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable installed it on my box here (it's x64, so it's in %windir%\syswow64\).

Download the dll

As cluberti said, on my system it's in C:\SysWOW64, try copying there `1st

Start> Type Run in search box and press enter> Type

Regsvr32 msvcp71.dll

Press Enter

Restart. try again.

If neccesary, Copy it to the directory (where the game is)

thx for the help guys, i checked sysWOW and only had 60 instead of 71. I downloaded the file off A guys post and that worked.... but now it wants MSVCR71.dll I have no idea how many dlls this thing needs that i dont have. Shame it doesnt come packaged with them.

I must say Nvidia are making some amazing stuff and i bought their gpu gems 3 book and read through the chapters that interested me. Seems that its very hard to get started with something though. None of their demos seem to work for me, missing dll's, wrong OS, wrong IDE etc. The theory should work and was going to try doing with some basic HLSL combined with textures but apparently limited and really need to get to grips with cg. Doh!

OK, think you'll be better off downloading the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable, and hopefully getting them all at once, and proerly installed.

Sounds like you might just want to get the newest version instead, while you are at it

I downloaded the redistributable and it did not solve my problem. I went and downloaded the dll from that file and copied it across to sysWOW and the program works now! Its pretty neat. Thanks for the help.
Btw i wouldnt have trusted that site Download your missing dll-files - DLL-files.com if you hadnt recommended it. Looks badly put together like all the 'free' sites that just send you trojans/malware.
